Where are Stud Fees Heading?

As of Wednesday 10/31/07, 11 major Kentucky stud farms – Adena Springs, Claiborne, Hill ‘n’ Dale, Darley, Lane’s End, Overbrook, Pin Oak Stud, Stonewall, Three Chimneys, Vinery, and Wintergreen – have announced their 2008 stud fees. Here’s the count:

Stud Fees Up: 13
Stud Fees Down: 30
No Change: 63

It’s pretty clear that stud fees have peaked and a market adjustment has begun. With few exceptions, it’s nearly impossible to expand stallions books and increase stud fees at the same time. This is certainly good news for breeders. I’ll continue to post the cumulative results here as farms continue to announce 2008 fees.
