Team Werk

JACK WERK is President of Werk Thoroughbred Consultants, Inc., Founding Publisher of the respected journal OWNER-BREEDER, the ground-breaking thoroughbred journal dedicated to pedigree analysis, theories and trends, and co-founder and partner with Roger Lyons in CompuSire, the popular pedigree software. During the 1970's, Jack owned and operated one of the largest real estate brokerages in the San Francisco Bay Area. A long-time racing enthusiast, he left the real estate business to pursue his interest in the study of Thoroughbred pedigree. That interest grew into what is now Werk Thoroughbred Consultants, what many people in racing regard as the most influential pedigree consulting company in North America. Jack is a frequent speaker at Thoroughbred conferences worldwide and is highly committed to the principle of service to the industry. Besides being a keen observer of pedigree trends and market conditions, Jack's success and that of WTC is largely attributable to his insistence upon fair business policies and practices that keep clients coming back. He also has an astute sense of the kinds of information products that are needed by Thoroughbred breeders and buyers, and, of course, his ability to bring those products to market post-haste is admired throughout the industry.

ROGER LYONS, a native of Kansas, joined Werk Thoroughbred Consultants in 1992 and has served the company in various capacities ever since. He earned his BA and MA degrees in English at Wichita State University. His career in the Thoroughbred industry began in Lexington, KY where he worked for Racing Update from 1983 to 1989, assisting in the development of commercial and performance information products that have since gained industry-wide acceptance. Subsequently, he began developing and marketing Thoroughbred pedigree software, which culminated in a move to Fremont, CA in 1992 to develop new pedigree information resources for WTC and to assist with consulting. While in Fremont, he co-founded the well-known CompuSire pedigree software with Jack Werk. Roger returned to Lexington in 1996 and has since then served WTC in an advisory capacity and assisted with the development of the popular eNicks service. He also provides private consulting for a limited number of clients. He now resides in Wichita, KS where he moved his operation in 2004.

ELAINE BELVAL parlayed her childhood love of horses into a distinguished career in the Thoroughbred industry. While earning her BS degree in Equine Science at Colorado State University, she did her internship with Werk Thoroughbred Consultants in 1991 and, upon completion of her degree, accepted a position with the company as Pedigree Analyst and Consultant. During her tenure with WTC, she was an integral part of the team that planned the mating of 1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Real Quiet. Feeling the need to broaden her experience, she left the company in 1996 and, after a brief hiatus from the thoroughbred industry, accepted the position of pedigree analyst with Juddmonte Farm in Lexington, KY, where she remained for six years. In early 2006, she returned to California to take the position of senior pedigree analyst for WTC. Elaine is also a certified equine appraiser, licensed by the American Equine Appraisers.
